SWT is dedicated to amplifying the voices of indigenous women and girls, empowering them to exercise their human rights through various strategies that provide safe spaces and platforms. SWT has been at the forefront of monitoring the development and implementation of laws protecting the rights of women and girls. The organization promotes awareness of supportive laws and nurtures confident, knowledgeable leadership for effective participation and articulation of women’s perspectives on emerging and existing policies, laws, and norms at community, county, national, and international levels.
SWT links indigenous women and girls with robust normative frameworks for their protection at both regional and international levels and progressive national laws, such as the Constitution of Kenya 2010, the Children’s Act, and the Anti-FGM Act. These frameworks serve as a basis for advocacy to develop supportive laws and policies at the county level.
The organization invests in fact-based research to inform public debate, advocacy, training, and lobbying for appropriate programs and policies at local, national, and international levels. SWT operates a national secretariat and satellite offices to provide women with access to training opportunities, information, and other support. The organization involves women in political spaces, land management, and community meetings. Notably, some trained and empowered women were elected during the recent elections and others secured influential roles in public service offices.
